Distinguish Somonauk Community Park from Sannauk Forest Preserve
The village's parks page lists Somonauk Community Park at 470 South Depot and describes a trail from the Somonauk Library toward Sannauk Forest Preserve. If guests are told only to meet at 'the park near the trail,' an event can become difficult to find. Use the actual park name, address and authorized gathering point for a reunion, company picnic or community celebration, especially when attendees are coming from elsewhere.
Do not use the connecting trail as a reception area
The village describes the limestone route as a connection to the forest preserve, not an event rental space. If your gathering is near that route, keep the proposed décor and guest photograph queue within the area approved by the relevant site operator. Ask where people may congregate without interrupting through movement. A trailhead can be a useful wayfinding reference without becoming the place to install an arch.
Treat Heroes Park as its own setting
Heroes Park is separately listed at 310 Warren Street, and the village describes a memorial-related installation there. If a recognition ceremony is proposed at that location, ask the village what gathering and décor are appropriate. A respectful, clearly bounded welcome point may be more suitable than covering an existing feature. Do not assume conditions at Community Park apply to this different site or that either listing confirms private rental availability.

Frequently asked questions
Are Somonauk Community Park and Sannauk Forest Preserve the same place?
No. The village lists Community Park on South Depot and describes a trail connection to Sannauk Forest Preserve. Confirm which destination is on your event approval and give suppliers the full name rather than relying on similar-sounding names.
Does Somonauk's parks page reserve an event location?
No. It identifies parks and a trail connection, not a completed reservation or décor permit. Start with the village at 815-498-3500 for the appropriate local contact, then confirm the particular site's use and installation conditions.
